Biography
A native of Washington, D.C., Kathleen Duck Ludowise has performed in recital and oratorio throughout the United States. Locally, she performed as soprano soloist with the Nova Vista Symphony, Santa Clara Chorale, South Valley Symphony, and with Opera San Jose’s Barbara Day Turner and musicians from the San Jose Chamber Orchestra in John Harbison’s Mirabai Songs. She appeared in local recital series sponsored by San Jose Museum of Art, the Pacifica Arts & Heritage Council, the Palo Alto Fine Arts Commission, and has performed chamber music with faculty ensembles at Santa Clara University and San Jose State University. She has toured the east coast performing a lecture-recital titled Emily Dickinson in Poetry & Song .
Education and Academic Credentials
Ms. Ludowise is a graduate of the University of Maryland (B.S. in Music Education), and the University of Illinois (Master of Music in Vocal Performance) with additional studies towards a DMA. Her major teachers and coaches include: Louise McClelland Urban (Maryland), Martin Katz (Maryland), Elena Fels Noth (Illinois), and John Wustman (Illinois). Her opera training includes performances under the direction of David Lloyd, Richard Aslanian, and Wolf Siegfried Wagner.
For 28 years, Ms. Ludowise was a member of the voice faculty at Santa Clara University, working with music majors and minors, musical theater majors, and graduate students in Liturgical Music. A collegiate professor of voice since 1972, she previously taught on the voice faculties of Marshall University (West Virginia), Clarion University of Pennsylvania (tenure granted), California State University at Hayward, and San Jose State University (California)
Professional Affiliations
Ms. Ludowise is a member Music Teachers Association of Calif. (MTAC), and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), where she served as San Francisco Bay Area Chapter President from 2000-2002. She held the office of NATS Northern California Regional Governor from 2004-2012, and worked coordinating activities with chapters from Monterey to the Oregon border. Ms. Ludowise was a member of the Santa Clara University Music Department Faculty from 1990 - 2018. Her teacher profile is listed on the National Association of Teachers of Singing National website.
